Getting paid by a foreign company in Georgia

A foreign company can pay you through Deel, Payoneer or a direct bank transfer. We compare the three and explain what to prepare before your first payment.

What to prepare

  • A US dollar account at a local bank. For direct transfers you need the IBAN, the bank's SWIFT code, its name and address.
  • A contract with the company, or an order confirmed by email. The bank may ask for it when foreign currency arrives.
  • An invoice for every payment: who, to whom, for what services, amount, period, bank details.
  • Your tax registration, set up as an accountant advises.

The company usually decides: many already run payroll for contractors on Deel or pay by bank transfer. Your job is to set up that method and move the money to your account with the smallest loss.

Deel

Deel is a platform the company uses to sign your contract and pay you each month. You sign up from the company's invitation, sign the contract in your account and choose how to withdraw: bank account, Payoneer, Wise, PayPal, a crypto wallet or a card[1]. The options depend on the country, and each has its own timing and fees.

Payoneer

Payoneer gives you receiving details in US dollars and other currencies, so the company can pay you, and lets you send invoices. You withdraw the balance to a bank account in local currency or in dollars[2].

Withdrawing in lari uses Payoneer's exchange rate; withdrawing dollars to a dollar account means you convert at your bank instead. Compare both on your own amount.

Direct bank transfer (SWIFT)

The company sends dollars from its bank to your account. Intermediary banks may take a fee, so slightly less may arrive. Agree who pays the charges (OUR, SHA or BEN on the transfer) and show the amount on your invoice.

Your bank may check incoming foreign payments against documents: contract, invoice, sometimes a statement of work. Keep them at hand, especially before the first payment.

What it is in lari

National Bank of Georgia rate: $1 = GEL 2.5987 on 16 October 2026[3]. At that rate our vacancies pay GEL 2,080–2,860 for an executive assistant and GEL 1,820–2,600 for customer support a month. What you actually get depends on your bank's rate on the day you convert and on fees.

Questions

Can I receive payments to a personal card?

For one-off payments, often yes, but for regular income from services the bank may limit transactions or ask for documents, and the tax treatment differs. Check with an accountant and your bank.

What goes on an invoice?

Your details and the company's, an invoice number and date, a description of services and the period, the amount in dollars and your bank details. Deel and Payoneer help you create invoices in your account.

How long does a transfer take?

From a few hours to a few business days, depending on the method. The service or bank shows the exact time.

Who pays the transfer fee?

The parties agree. Deel and Payoneer fees depend on the withdrawal method and currency; for a bank transfer it is set by OUR, SHA or BEN.
