What Shopify is for in this role
Shopify is an e-commerce platform for running an online store: products, orders, payments, customers and a large choice of add-on apps. For a bookkeeper it is the source of sales detail behind each payout and the place to check what the bank deposit really contains.
What knowing Shopify really means
- Reconciles Shopify Payments payouts to the bank
- Separates gross sales, discounts, refunds, shipping and tax
- Handles gift cards and store credit correctly
- Explains why the sales report differs from the payouts
A short practical test
Give a month's sales report and two payouts spanning the month-end. Ask for entries and an explanation of the difference. A good answer deals with timing, refunds and fees in plain words.
How long a smart hire needs to learn it
About two weeks for someone with good bookkeeping skills but no Shopify background. Payout timing is the part that confuses people. Give the person a real Shopify task on the first day, with someone checking the result, rather than a course.
Our rule of thumb from how the work breaks down, not a study.
What access to give
Create a staff account with its own login, two-step sign-in and only the permissions the job needs: orders, products or customers. Keep the store owner role, payouts, domains and app installs with the owner. Avoid live theme code edits: use a duplicate theme, and keep customer exports off until needed.
Available now
No published bookkeeper profile lists Shopify on Stafka today. Send the brief, we reply within one business day with a yes or a no.
Choose a country: shared hours
Bookkeeping has deadlines rather than shifts. A weekly rhythm and a fixed month-end date matter more than shared hours, apart from a short regular call with whoever approves payments.
Against a 9–17 client day in winter[3][4][5][6]; for New York, on a 9–18 local day or a 13–22 shift. Check your own office.
What it costs
We do not publish a pay band for bookkeepers yet: where a profile lists a monthly rate, that is what the person asks for. The BLS figure of $50,670 a year is for Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks[2] across all industries: we have no separate figure for this niche. Paying through Deel adds $49 a month[7]; Wise and Payoneer also work.

How hiring through Stafka works
- Send the brief or post the job free. Name your accounting software, your country's tax setup, monthly transaction volume, and the accountant who reviews the books.
- Within 5 business days of a confirmed brief you get 3 matching profiles, or a plain no. Most apply through our Telegram bot with a written and a voice English task; each profile shows the English level (B1–C2); Silkstaff checks English on a live call before any client interview.
- You interview, choose and contract the person directly through Deel, Wise or Payoneer. Candidates never pay.
Questions
Do we need a sync app?
Beyond a modest number of orders, usually. It posts summarised data so that nobody types orders in by hand. The bookkeeper still reconciles and checks the mapping, ideally with your accountant's sign-off.
Should I pay more for a bookkeeper who already knows Shopify?
Our placement fee is the same either way. Prior knowledge matters most when nobody on your team can teach Shopify. Our rule of thumb for learning it: About two weeks for someone with good bookkeeping skills but no Shopify background. Payout timing is the part that confuses people.
Where can I hire an affordable bookkeeper who knows Shopify?
The usual routes are a freelance marketplace, an agency with a monthly margin, or a direct hire in a lower-cost country. On Stafka it is a direct hire: you pay the person the monthly pay you agree with them, plus $2,500–3,000[1] once if you hire, with no monthly margin.
