What Shopify is for in this role
Shopify is an e-commerce platform for running an online store: products, orders, payments, customers and a large choice of add-on apps. For support it is where the facts live: order status, tracking, refunds, discounts and customer history.
What knowing Shopify really means
- Reads the order timeline and can explain what happened to a customer
- Edits orders, refunds a single item and restocks correctly
- Handles returns and exchanges by your process
- Knows what can still be changed before fulfilment
A short practical test
In a development store or by screenshots, ask them to change an address, refund one of two items with shipping left alone, and write the customer note. Check they restock as you asked and that the refund maths is right.
How long a smart hire needs to learn it
About a week to be solid on orders and refunds, particularly if they have used another store platform. Your policies take longer than the screens. Give the person a real Shopify task on the first day, with someone checking the result, rather than a course.
Our rule of thumb from how the work breaks down, not a study.
What access to give
Create a staff account with its own login, two-step sign-in and only the permissions the job needs: orders, products or customers. Keep the store owner role, payouts, domains and app installs with the owner. Avoid live theme code edits: use a duplicate theme, and keep customer exports off until needed.

Names, contacts and employers stay hidden until a candidate accepts your intro request.
Choose a country: shared hours
Support works when customers write. Email queues can wait a few hours; live chat and phone need someone on shift, which for US customers often means evening hours in the candidate's time zone.
Against a 9–17 client day in winter[4][5][6][7]; for New York, on a 9–18 local day or a 13–22 shift. Check your own office.
What it costs
On our open vacancies this role pays $700–1,000 a month[3], paid by you to the person. The BLS figure of $44,770 a year is for Customer Service Representatives[2] across all industries: we have no separate figure for this niche. Paying through Deel adds $49 a month[8]; Wise and Payoneer also work.

How hiring through Stafka works
- Send the brief or post the job free. Give ticket volume by channel, your help desk, your refund rules and the hours you want covered.
- Within 5 business days of a confirmed brief you get 3 matching profiles, or a plain no. Most apply through our Telegram bot with a written and a voice English task; each profile shows the English level (B1–C2); Silkstaff checks English on a live call before any client interview.
- You interview, choose and contract the person directly through Deel, Wise or Payoneer. Candidates never pay.
Questions
Is Shopify experience essential for support?
It helps, but good writing and judgment matter more. A strong writer who has used WooCommerce or Amazon can learn Shopify's order screens within days. The reverse takes far longer.
Should I pay more for a customer support specialist who already knows Shopify?
Our placement fee is the same either way. Prior knowledge matters most when nobody on your team can teach Shopify. Our rule of thumb for learning it: About a week to be solid on orders and refunds, particularly if they have used another store platform. Your policies take longer than the screens.
Where can I hire an affordable customer support specialist who knows Shopify?
The usual routes are a freelance marketplace, an agency with a monthly margin, or a direct hire in a lower-cost country. On Stafka it is a direct hire: you pay the person $700–1,000 a month on our open vacancies[3], plus $2,500–3,000[1] once if you hire, with no monthly margin.
